Tiered Skirt - Oh So Trendy!

My daughter (dd2) had been salivating over those three tiered mini skirts so I decided to make her one because, you know, I just can't BEAR to buy something that I know I can make. In case you didn't know this about me, I have a fetish for cloth and have rolls upon rolls stashed away, just waiting for the right pattern to spring out at me. The girls say I have a problem - until I make something like this from my stash. Then they just LOVE the fact that their mama has a closet full of cloth!

I wanted to make it four tiers but she insisted on it being three tiers after it was already in construction so I cut it off. Then she discovered it was too short to wear to school. Bummer! Foiled my plans of adding some items to her back to school wardrobe that cost next to nothing.

I didn't have a pattern. I just made a pattern from a straight skirt she already had, gave it a little flare at the bottom and then attached rrrrrows of rrrrrrrrrruffles. It is just too cute but TOO short IMHO.

I also made this one with no tiers and gave it a lining. It even has inset pockets (just a hint of bragging here). I made it a little longer and the heifer has yet to wear this one because "it's so long, Mama!" It is just above the knees. Why do kids want to show their cheeks? We (cough) NEVER wanted to wear anything as skimpy as they try to nowadays (hack, sputter, sniff).

Next, I'll make it a bubble, attaching the fashion fabric to the lining at the bottom.

Bama Belle Dress

I made this dress for a Bama Belle debutante a few years back. The dress was supposed to be antebellum period. It was gorgeous and the girls' coloring was greatly accentuated by the dress. I would have chosen a different color but this is the color she and her mom wanted. It is from Butterick pattern 6195.

I TOLD y'all I could make more than Alabama stuff.

Denim Toddler Dress w/Contrast Yoke

I needed to show you guys I can make something other than Alabama stuff!! This is a lovely toddler dress made out of denim with a contrast yoke. I know you can't tell from the picture but the yoke is made from Christmas themed material. The dress is fully lined and has heavy duty snaps at the shoulder. I'm going to make a couple more that are all over denim and I'm going to embrioder applique a Christmas tree out of the same material on the bodice front. REAL CUTE!!

My girls keep begging me to have another baby so they can dress her. I tell them they have LOST THEIR MINDS!!!! No mo' babies from these hips. I tell them they'd better talk to their daddy but they said that defeats the purpose, they want her to live here with them so they'll get to ruin her. DELUSIONAL!

I think I'll upload some things I've already made, like a couple of pageant dresses, next. Stay tuned to see my true talent!

My Scoodie, My Scoodie, Not My Scoodie

Just in time for Homecoming next week, if folks have gotten over yesterdays disappointment. While simple in appearance, this scarf + hoodie (hence, scoodie) is remarkably detailed. It is reversible and has a center panel down the middle of the hood which gives you enough room to wear a cap underneath if you are very cold natured. It's unisex but the guys will likely balk at wearing one. This is perfect for fall games. I know we're in Indian summer but it won't last much longer.

Not trying to commit blasphemy here, but the Auburn one is going to be prettier...imagine tiger print fleece. I am an equal opportunity sewer and I have been neglecting AU, probably to protect my neck in Tide country. BTW, darling daughter #1 has claimed THIS scoodie. They don't seem to realize they are cutting into mommy's profits!

The Amazing Multi Scarf!!!

I can't believe how well this scarf turned out. I'm off to buy the rest of the cloth that exists in these colors (and don't worry, Tiger fans, I'll make some for you, too!). There are so many ways to wear this scarf. My darling daughter #2 has already claimed this one so I've got to get cracking on making some to sell. I need to make some in the local high school colors, too.

Hmmmm, lets see... Georgia - black and red. Auburn - blue and orange. LSU - purple and gold....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

I'm a girl determined to make some money so y'all get to buying!! Like my page on your facebook pages and tell your friends to like it on their pages. Mama gotta make some dough.

Next post... Scoodies!

Alabama "A" Potholder

Finally got around to the tailgating paraphernalia.

Pot holder on Houndstooth fabric with screen printed A. The pattern came from youcanmakethis.com (free), It really calls for quilting on both sides but I thought it would be too difficult to screen the front after it had been quilted, I’ve gotten really good at doing the screenprinting technique by marina_glory on BurdaStyle.com.

This is a REAL pot holder – it has the insulation that reflects heat away from your hand.

I had a lot of fun making these. It's neat screenprinting your own items. The technique is on BurdaStyle by marina_glory in case you want to try your hand at it (see my favorite places). My daughters and I are going to make T-shirts with our "Coat of Arms" and take a family photo.

Houndstooth Bow-Tie

My nephew had been asking me for several weeks if I could make a houndstooth bowtie for him. I told him easy-peezy but kept putting it and putting it off. Last weekend, he told me his fraternity brothers were buying ties left and right and willingly forking out $25+ for them. My jaw dropped!! Hence, my newest project. Houndstooth bow ties. The most difficult thing is finding the correct sliders to make the tie adjustable. Off to make 25!!!! Will post on etsy when I can take a decent picture.

On a side note, I now can tie a bow tie!!! Man, it's not easy at first but once you get the hang of it, you can tie it just as fast as tying a regular one. Now, where is a dude who likes bow ties? Not to worry, I'll make some pre-tied ones as well for the dude who can't tie his own and his lady can't either. All I can say is, gurrrrl, LEARN HOW TO TIE A TIE! It does impress the dudes.
